Convert PNG to WebP Free

WebP was designed by Google specifically to replace both PNG and JPG on the web. For images with transparency, lossless WebP is 26% smaller than PNG on average. WebP lossy produces files 25-35% smaller than PNG at the same visual quality. Critically, WebP supports alpha transparency - so you can convert logos, icons, and UI graphics without worrying about white backgrounds. Browser support is now effectively universal (Chrome, Firefox, Safari 14+, iOS 14+).

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP support transparency like PNG?
Yes - WebP supports an 8-bit alpha channel, the same as PNG. You can convert logos, icons, and images with transparent backgrounds to WebP without any change to the transparency.
How much smaller will my WebP be compared to PNG?
For lossless WebP, expect 20-30% smaller files than PNG. For lossy WebP at equivalent visual quality, savings are typically 30-50%. Photographic images see the biggest gains; simple flat-colour graphics see less.
Is WebP supported in all browsers?
WebP has been supported in all major browsers since 2020 - Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari 14+, and iOS Safari 14+. For the tiny number of users on very old browsers, consider a PNG fallback via the HTML <picture> element.
