Convert PNG to JPG Free
PNG uses lossless compression, which keeps files large - often unnecessarily so for photographs. JPG's lossy compression typically produces files 60-80% smaller for photographic content with barely noticeable quality difference at settings above 80. Converting a PNG screenshot or photo to JPG is a quick win for web performance and email attachments. Note that JPG does not support transparency - any transparent areas in your PNG will be filled with white.

Frequently asked questions
- Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
- JPG uses lossy compression, so there is a small quality trade-off. At quality settings of 80 or above, the difference is typically invisible to the naked eye for photographs. For graphics with sharp edges, text, or large flat colour areas, PNG may be the better choice since artefacts are more noticeable there.
- What happens to transparent areas when converting PNG to JPG?
- JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent pixels in your PNG will be replaced with a solid white background in the converted JPG. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to WebP or keep the file as PNG.
- Is converting PNG to JPG reversible?
- Technically yes, but converting JPG back to PNG does not recover quality. JPG compression is lossy - information is discarded permanently. Always keep your original PNG if you might need the lossless version later.
