What is HEIC and why can't I open it on Windows?
HEIC is Apple's photo format introduced with iOS 11. Windows doesn't natively support it without installing the "HEIF Image Extensions" from the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG is simpler and gives you a file that works everywhere without extra software.
Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
There is a small quality reduction since JPG is lossy, but at Rebytify's default quality of 82 the result is visually identical to the original for photographs. The practical trade-off is file size: JPG will typically be larger than the HEIC original.
