Is AVIF as good as JXL?
They are both excellent. AVIF often wins at very low bitrates, while JXL tends to preserve fine detail better at high quality and encodes faster. AVIF's advantage today is browser support.
Does AVIF keep transparency?
Yes. AVIF supports full alpha transparency, so cutouts and logos convert cleanly.
Why is AVIF conversion slow?
AV1-based encoding is computationally heavy. Rebytify runs it in a background thread, but large batches take a little while.
