- Why can't I open my JXL file?
- JPEG XL is a newer format and many apps, operating systems and browsers do not decode it yet. Converting to PNG gives you a file that opens in virtually any software.
- Is JXL to PNG conversion lossless?
- The PNG contains exactly the pixels the JXL decodes to, so nothing further is lost. If the JXL itself was saved with lossy compression, that earlier loss cannot be recovered.
- Will the PNG be larger than the JXL?
- Almost always. JXL compresses far more efficiently than PNG, so expect the PNG to be several times larger for photographs.
